*phone rings*
L: Hello?
J: Hey Lyndz, it’s James. So you remember this weekend when you were talking about your book and writing and stuff?
L: Uhh, yea.
J: Well, Jon and I were talking and DreamClash is going to have a department called “Sights.” So what do you think?
L: What do I think about what?
Ok, so the above script is not a verbatim representation of that phone call a year ago, but I think I hit the high points. DreamClash Sights, is the department (officially managed by yours truly) dedicated to the artistic expression of storytelling via written narrative and/or artwork. As mentioned previously, our main project is our graphic novel which was “dreamed up” the night of that fateful conversation. Ok, so that’s not precisely accurate.
It was more like this:
L: Ok, so you want me to work on your graphic novel. Cool. What is it about?
J: We don’t know.
L: Oh.
J: I have some ideas though.
L: Ok, shoot.
J: So there’s this...
(10 minutes later of apocalyptic drama)
…and then maybe he dies!
L: Wow James...that’s...reeeaally depressing.
J: Yea!
L: Uhh, I think my readers will kill me if I write another dark novel…
J: Well, what about this idea. There’s these five guys, and they’re all cursed- you know with these major problems. And they travel around fighting people trying to cure themselves!
L: - s i l e n c e -
J: And that’s pretty much all I got.
L: Ok...well James. What if I take some time with these ideas and get back to you?
And thus began my unexpected journey into a world just waiting to be created- little knowing that what awaited me was countless hours of sitting at my computer banging my head against the keyboard, afternoons of drawing maps and sketching out pictures, and long phone conferences that lasted till 2 o’clock in the morning. Even after all of this- the most crucial question still loomed overhead…
What in the world was I going to name this thing???
Muse with joy, Lyndsay
Up next week: “Working Title”
